Holzperlentuch Bilder / Beaded Shawl Pictures

So, nun habe ich das Teil fotografiert, in meiner wunderbar sonnigen Küche. Mich begeistern sowohl Farbe als auch Muster, ich werde es nur das nächste Mal etwas größer stricken (das Garn dafür habe ich schon, handgefärbte Sockenwolle von Schoppel). Diesmal wollte ich ungefähr die Größe stricken, die im Buch ("Ajour, Lace ... oder einfach nur Löcher") angegeben war. Allerdings habe ich für meine Version weniger Garn verbraucht (150 statt 200 g), dafür ist das Ganze etwas größer (80x200 statt 70x160).

Es ist wunderbar federleicht, sehr weich, hat vom Spannen leider ein paar Wellen gekriegt (das ist wohl systemimmanent) und wird sicher eins meiner Lieblingstücher, weil es einfach schön ist.

Die Perlen sind keine Holzperlen, das würde ich das nächste Mal auch anders machen. Mir gefallen sie zwar, aber ich glaube, Holzperlen passen hier wirklich besser. Nicht so schön fand ich in der Anleitung, dass grade das im Chart fehlt, was ziemlich kompliziert auszurechnen ist: Das Verhältnis Muster zu Rändern. Da müssen halt einige Strickerinnen ihre Excels anwerfen und selbst rechnen. Dass das Muster querformatig ist und damit auf keinen Chartholder passt, ist vermutlich der Art der Publikation (Book on Demand) geschuldet. Da wir ja sowieso schon in Excel sind, können wir das Ding auch gleich nochmals zeichnen.

So, here are some pictures of the beaded shawl, taken in my beautifully sunny kitchen. I like the colour as well as the pattern very much, however next time I will make it a bit bigger (I already got the yarn, handdyed sockyarn from Schoppel). This time I wanted the size given in the book ("Ajour, Lace ... oder einfach nur Löcher"). However I used less yarn in my version (150g instead of 200) and still mine is bigger (80x200 instead of 75x160).

So it is light as a feather, smooth and has some ripples from blocking (inevitable of course). It will be one of my favourite shawls, because it is beautiful and simple.

The beads are not of wood opposite to indicated in the book. I like it that way, still next time I will use wood beads, because they seem more fitting to me. I didn't like too much that the most complicated detail of all was missing in the chart: the relation of the pattern to the edging. So quite a fews knitters will have to activate their excel sheets and calculate themselves. That the pattern is printed in landscape and won't fit on any sort of chartholder, may be due to the nature of publishing (Book on Demand). Since we're already drawing the thing in excel, we may just as well do the whole thing.

Heute früh habe ich den Anfang des Faroese Shawl aus "A Gathering of Lace" aufgezogen. Ich stricke das Ding mit Noro Silk Garden Sock und finde das Stricken damit mehr so furchtbar unangenehm. Nicht nur, dass das Zeug zwirbelt wie irre und sich ständig verwickelt, es ist auch eher wenig nachgiebig und es ist schwer, die richtige Nadelstärke zu wählen.

Erst hatte ich 4,5, das schien mir zu klein. Beim Aufziehen habe ich gemerkt, dass das Ding ein Monsterschal wird, aber klug, wie ich bin, habe ich dann das Ganze nochmals mit Nadelstärke 6 angefangen. Das wäre die Mutter aller Lacetücher geworden, ich hätte vermutlich meine kompletten 35qm Wohnzimmer damit zudecken können. Deshalb wieder aufgezogen, jetzt bin ich bei Nadelstärke 4 und habe auch schon eine Verkürzungsstrategie, wenn ich merke, die drei Knäule reichen nicht, die ich von dem Garn habe. Mehr will ich keinesfalls dafür aufwenden.

Fazit: Die Farben sind unglaublich fantastisch, aber das rechtfertigt weder den Preis noch die Mühe des Strickens. Bleibt wohl meine einzige Noro-Erfahrung *grmpf

Ein letztes Bild habe ich noch, und zwar das meines genialen Charthalters. Dafür nehme ich nämlich einen Orchesternotenständer. Der ist verstellbar in Höhe und Neigung, da passt alles drauf, darunter ist eine Ablage und das Ganze ist aus Metall, so dass ich einfach Magnetknöpfe und Lineal dranpacken kann, wenn ich mich in den Reihen verheddere. Das Ding war damals ziemlich teuer, aber er leistet nicht nur beim Musizieren gute Dienste. Im Moment habe ich eine mehr so schwache Leselampe dran, ich habe aber auch noch ein Orchesterlicht für kleine Schriften und dunkle Abende.

This morning I frogged the beginning of the Faroese Shawl from "A Gathering of Lace". I'm knitting it with Noro Silk Garden Sock, which I find quite awful to knit with. Not only that it twiddles like mad and due to that gets entangled all the time, it is quite unyielding and I find it difficult to chose the appropriate needle size. First I started with 4.5 mm (US 7), this seemed too small. While frogging it I saw that it was quite huge. But bright as I am I re-started in needle size 6 (US 10). This would have been the mother of old Lace Shawls, I might just as well have covered my entire 35 sqm living-room with it. So I returned to needle size 4 (US 6) and also have thought about a shortening strategy, if I realize that my three skeins won't be enough.

In short: The colours are fantastic, but this justifies neither the prize nor the effort of knitting. So this will most probably be my only Noro-knitting experience *umph

I've got one last picture: My ingenious chartholder. This is my orchestral music stand. It is adjustable in height and incline, big enough even for huge books like "A gathering of lace" and there is a sort of rack for everything needed. And the whole thing is out of metal, so I can use magnet pins and ruler whenever I'm getting confused with the rows. The thing was quite costly but it's worth its prize, for making music as well as for knitting. At present there is a quite weak reading lamp, but I've also got an orchestral lamp for tiny charts and evenings.
