Work in Progress

Wie fast immer am Sonntag gibts heute den Fortschritt meiner Projekte. Diesmal sind es nur zwei, weil die anderen beiden (Laminaria und die Adult-Surprise-Jacke) keinen Fortschritt zu vermelden haben.

Wegen drohender Überlänge habe ich das Ganze allerdings heute in drei Posts aufgeteilt: Der eine beschäftigt sich mit Work in Progress wie immer. Der zweite zeigt ein bisschen neue Wolle und den Grund, warum ich grade strenges Wollkaufverbot habe. Der dritte schließlich zeigt meine Technik des Zwei-Farben-Strickens, da dies beim Stricktreffen dieser Tage für etwas Interesse sorgte.

Like almost every Sunday this shows the progress of my projects. This time there are just two, since the other two (Lamiaria and Adult-Surprise-Cardigan) made no progress this week).

However today there will be three posts due to threat of overlength: One deals with Work in Progress as usual. The second shows a litte bit of newly purchased yarn and the reason, for which I'm suffering a strict ban on buying new yarn. Finally the third deals with my technique of knitting Fair Isle, since this arouse some interest at the knitting café the other day.

1. Wintermanteldufflecoat: Hier gibt es den größten Fortschritt (im wahrsten Sinne des "Größten"): Der Körper ist bis zu den Armausschnitten gewachsen (55cm !!!) und ungefähr 600 Gramm schwer. Der erste Ärmel ist knapp 30cm lang (wird 36cm bis zum Zusammenfassen des Ganzen). Ich kann gut verstehen, dass Forumposts bei Ravelry schreiben, man sollte diesen Mantel für sich selbst stricken, weil man niemals einen zweiten strickt. Das ist schon harte Arbeit, allein den Körper durch die Gegend zu wuchten. Aber es macht Spaß, weil man gut vorwärts kommt.

Im Gegensatz zu den Afterthought-Pockets (nachträglich eingesetzte Taschen), wo ein Faden aufgeschnitten wird, hab ich "Anticipated-Afterthought" (vorausgeahnte nachträglich eingesetzte) Taschenlöcher gestrickt. Dazu habe ich mit einem Wollrest die Maschen für die Taschenöffnung gestrickt, danach die Maschen wieder auf die linke Nadel genommen und normal mit der Mantelwolle weitergestrickt. So kann ich am Ende einfach das Kontrastgarn rausnehmen, muss nichts vernähen und habe trotzdem die für die Tasche erforderlichen Maschen.

Der Ärmel hat einen Pulliärmel aus Alpaca eingestrickt. Dazu hab ich 10cm 2re-2li gestrickt, dann ein bisschen Maschen zugenommen und irgendwann das Ganze mit dem äußeren Ärmel zusammengestrickt. Wenn man den Ärmel normal sieht, fällt das nicht auf, aber ich kann natürlich eine feine Linie sehen - und fotografieren. Bei dem Gesamtauftritt des Mantels wirds nicht auffallen.

Das Ganze wird dann zusammen aufgefasst, was ungefähr knapp 400 Maschen Katia Peru in Nadel sechseinhalb sein werden. Dann gibts eine eingestrickte Armkugel mit einem kleinen Schultersattel und direkt herausgestrickter Kapuze. Ich hab ja ein bisschen Bammel, ob das alles so klappt, aber ich bin fest entschlossen, das genau so zu stricken. Evtl. bastle ich mir aus Fimo auch die passenden Knebel, weil ich bisher noch nichts gesehen habe, das mir gefällt.

Winter Dufflecoat: This has the biggest progress (in the true sense of "biggest"): The body is at the arm-holes (55cm!) and weighs about 600 grams. The first sleeve is just about 30cm long (will be 36cm at the joining of the whole). I very much appreciate now that forumposts at Ravelry advise to knit the coat for oneself, since you never do a second. This is hard work, simply to move this huge bodypart around. But it's fun, since the progress is quite fast.

Unlike the usual "afterthought pockets", where you cut a thread for a set in pocket, I did an "anticipated-afterthought" pocket. For this I knitted the stitches for the pocket opening in a contrast yarn, put them back on the left needle and then knitted them again with the coat yarn. So I just take out the contrast yarn in the end, do not have to darn in the cut ends and still have the appropriate stitches ready.

The sleeve has an inserted snow cuff in alpaca. With this I knitted 10cm k2p2, then increased a bit and knitted this thing together with the outer sleeve. This doesn't show, still of course I'm able to see the joint - and take a picture of it.

The whole thing (body and 2 sleeves) will be joined, which basically means having close to 400 stitches in Needle #11! Then there will be a knit-in sleeve with a small shoulder saddle and knitted-in hood. I'm a bit of a sissy whether this turns out fine, but I'm determined to knit it exactly as given. Maybe I'll even make the buttons out of FIMO, since I haven't found ones I like to go with it.

2. Kinderjacke: Diese hat auch ein bisschen Fortschritt gemacht. Gefällt mir gut, Alpaca mit Fair Isle geht und meine Art zu stricken macht die Maschen nicht zu weit und nicht zu eng. Da hatte ich ein paar Befürchtungen am Anfang, aber die sind inzwischen zerstreut. Das Muster habe ich mir selbst überlegt basierend auf dem Wunsch des Kindes, für das die Jacke ist.

Children's Cardigan: This also made a bit of progress. I like it a lot, Alpaca with Fair Isle and my knitting technique works out nicely, the stitches are neither too loose nor too tight. I was afraid of that in the beginning, but they turned out wrong. The pattern is out of my head on the basis of what the kid wanted, for whom the cardigan is.
