Nunja, das erste, was ich gemacht habe, als ich hier ankam, war natürlich Garn kaufen. Nicht, dass ich nicht Garn für drei Projekte bei mir hätte, nein, es musste noch diese himmlische Baumwolle sein, für die ich garantiert nach Bildschirm ein Muster stricken musste. Okay, es wurde Hermia und ich habe Vorder- und Rückenteil fertig und bin an den Ärmeln. Manchmal ist viel stricken wunderbar, ich hab nämlich nur zwei nicht so praktische Pullis dabei, da hilft so eine Jacke enorm (sage ich jetzt mal).

Well, first thing I started when arriving here at my holiday place (North Sea) was buying yarn. Not that I hadn't yarn for three projects with me, no, I had to buy this gorgeous cotton, for which I had no appropriate pattern with me and had to knit according to something within my computer. Okay, I decided, it should be Hermia and I finished front and back and am working on the first sleeve. Sometimes knitting a lot is very helpful, since I've taken with me two not so appropriate jumpers, so a cardigan will help there (what an excuse!).


Mein zweites Projekt ist eins der Weihnachtstücher, die Faux Russian Stole aus "A Gathering of Lace". Das Garn ist wunderbare 2-ply Shetlandwolle von J+S. Ein großartiges Zeug, verstrickt sich wunderbar, das rot ist ein wundervoll knalliges Rot. Machmal bricht der Faden mehr so aus Versehen, aber das lässt sich gut wieder anfilzen. Im Zug ist das ein bisschen blöd, wenn man sich die Hand ableckt, aber seis drum.

My second ongoing project is one of the christmas stoles, the Faux Russian Stole of "A Gathering of Lace". It's knitted of absolutely gorgeous 2-ply shetlandwhool of J+S. Great stuff, knitts wonderfully, the red is a beautifully sparkling red. Sometimes the yarn breaks, but it may well be felted together again. This loosk a bit odd in the train, when people watch you licking your hand, but that's okay.

Tja, und schließlich ist Inishmore wieder aus dem Winterschlaf erwacht. Leider hat ihm dieser nicht so gut getan, er hat sein Rückenteil verloren. Dies aus drei Gründen: 1. Da waren mehrere kapitale Denkfehler drin, die mich gestört haben. 2. War ich ich nicht ganz sicher, ob das Ding weit genug wird. 3. Habe ich beschlossen, doch einen Pulli zu stricken und den in Runden, weil das bedeutet, immerhin 40cm lang nicht links verschränkte Maschen stricken zu müssen und so auch weniger Fehler zu machen.

Evtl. werde ich sogar die Ärmelausschnitte nähen und schneiden (häkeln und schneiden traue ich mich bei superwash-Zeug nicht, das habe ich probiert und war nicht so gut), so dass ich das gesamte Vorder- und Rückenteil gemeinsam stricken kann. Ich merke, Elisabeth Zimmermann hat mir doch schon verdammt viel beigebracht. Im letzten Jahr habe ich noch jede Masche einzeln auf eine Zopfnadel gesteckt und verkreuzt, jetzt mache ich das ohne Zopfnadel und habe von den sechs aufgeribbelten Knäulen innerhalb eines Wochenendes und zweier Abende vier wieder verstrickt. Unglaublich, aber wahr.

Well, and finally Inishmore woke up from hibernating. Unfortunately hibernating didn't do it much good, it lost its back. I had three reasons for that: 1. There were some major mistakes in it, which I didn't like at all. 2. I wasn't sure whether it was wide enough. 3. I had made up my mind to knit a pullover in rounds, so I won't have to purl in back for at least 40cm.

Maybe I'll even sow and cut the sleeveholes (I tried crocheting and cutting, but it didn't work out well with this superwash-yarn), so I will be able to knit back and front entirely in rounds. And I realize, Ms Zimmermann taught me a lot. Last year I used a cable needle even for the single stitches, now I'm doing it without. And from the six skeins for the back I used up four within a weekend and an evening. Unbelievable, but true.
