Sonntagsbericht | Sunday Update

Im Moment verbringe ich viel Zeit in Zügen. Da habe ich immer wieder wunderbare Gelegenheit zu stricken, allerdings darfs nicht zu kompliziert sein, sonst geht das im Zug nicht. Deshalb ging es mit der Schößchenjacke wunderbar vorwärts, weil sie einfach ist. Bei den Ärmeln allerdings wirds etwas schwierig, weil ich die längs stricke, das Ganze natürlich mit verkürzten Reihen und einer Armkugel. Die Rechnerei hat mich einen gesamten Abend gekostet und ich hoffe, das passt so, ähem.

At present I spend a lot of time in trains. This gives me the wonderful opportunity to knit. However my knitting can't be too complicated, this simply doesn't work too well in trains. That's why the peplum jacket made good progress, it is quite easy knit. This will slow down considerably now, because the sleeves will be a bit more difficult. They are knitted lengthwise with short rows and sleeve cap. It took me an entire evening to figure out the maths and I hope it works out, ahem.

Immerhin habe ich bereits die Fäden verwahrt und die Schultern zusammengenäht. Mein erster Versuch, das Ganze zu umhäkeln, ist schön in die Hose gegangen. Ich habs mit Rot versucht, aber da beim Halsausschnitt natürlich Maschen aufgenommen oder abgekettet wurden, sieht das furchtbar aus. Vor allem hebt sich das schön prominent vom Rest des Gestricks ab. Geht also nicht, muss ich nochmals. Ich werds diesmal in Dunkelblau versuchen. Übrigens wird die Jacke 14, in Worten: vierzehn, kleinere Knöpfe kriegen. Ich hab etwas überlegt, ob ich irgendwelche ganz besonderen Knöpfe dran machen möchte, aber nach einigem Ausprobieren hat mir das am besten gefallen.

After all I've darned in the ends and kitchened the sleeves. My first atempt on the crochet edging went wonderfully craps. I tried to do it in red, but since I had to pick up and cast of stitches at the neckline, this looks just awful, especially since it shows prominently with this contrasting colour. So I'll have to redo that. I'll try in blue next time. By the way, this jacket will have 14, in words: fourteen, smallish buttons. First I thought of using very special buttons, but after trying this just didn't work out and I liked the solution with the many smaller buttons best.

Die gute Nachricht ist, man sieht den besonders festen Teil nicht, wo ich mich letzte Woche so gottslästerlich geärgert habe. Dafür wird das meine "okay, ich war stocksauer, aber jetzt mache ich etwas wundervoll warmes und weiches für mich"-Jacke. Ein etwas zu langer Titel für die rechte Leiste, aber so heißt das Ding ab sofort für mich!

The good news is, you can't spot the very tight part, which I knitted in my irate state last week. For this it will be my "okay, I have been absolutely frantic, but now I'm making something wonderfully warm and soft for myself"jacket. It might be a bit long for the list on the right side of this blog, but this is what it is called to me from now on!

Das zweite Projekt, das ich heute vorstelle, ersetzt die Jacke als Reiseprojekt. Ich habe wunderbare Mirasol Sulka, ein mordsdickes Garn, zu stricken mit Nadelstärke 7-8. Die gibts in 50-Gramm-Strängen, aber die müsste ich ja ständig anfilzen. Deshalb habe ich die gleich jeweils zu viert aneinander gefilzt und schön große 200-Gramm-Bollen gewickelt. Naja, dann habe ich festgestellt, dass ein Kilo nie und nimmer für die von mir geplante Jacke, Box Top aus Knitted Jackets von Cheryl Oberle, reichen wird. Also habe ich mich erstmal umorientiert und ein glatt rechtes Teil angefangen. Geht ja bei dem Zeug sehr schnell, da sind fix mal 400 Gramm verarbeitet und ein großer Teil des Körpers ist fertig.

Nun hat meine Lieblingswolldealerin doch noch 10 Stränge gefunden, so dass es jetzt doch reicht. Also habe ich mein glatt rechtes Teil gestern im Strickcafé wieder aufgezogen. Da ich ja nun 400 Gramm schon gestrickt hatte, reden wir jetzt von einem fußballgroßen "Knäuel" Sulka, das da in meiner Wohnung (und in den Zügen) rumspringt.

The second project I'm introducing today, replaces the cardigan as my travelling project. I have 1000 grams of beautiful Mirasol Sulka, a superbulky yarn to be knitted with 7-8mm needles. It comes in 50-grams-skeins, which basically means that I constantly have to felt the ends for a new ball. So I wound up huge balls of 200 grams each. Then I figured out that my 1000 grams won't be enough for the sweater I fancied, the Box Top out of Knitted Jackets by Cheryl Oberle. So I reconsidered and started a stockinette stich body. It's quick knitting with this bulky yarn, you have 400 grams done in no time really, and two thirds of the body are finished.

Well, and now my LYS has dug up 10 more skeins, which will be enough for the Box Top after all. So I frogged my entire stockinette body yesterday in knitting café. Since I had done some 400 grams already we're talking now of a ball of Sulka the size of a football, running around in my living room (and eventually in trains also).

Bei dieser Gelegenheit habe ich gemerkt, dass irgendwo zwischen Nadelstärke 6 und 7 eine Schallmauer für mich ist, wo mir Stricken nicht mehr Spaß macht. Ich hatte erst mit 7er Nadeln angefangen und schnell gemerkt, das nervt. Man hat ständig das Gefühl, man muss einen Baumstamm durch ein zu kleines Loch ziehen. Bei rechten Maschen ist das okay, aber links wirds dann richtig anstrengend. Und anstrengen ist nichts für meine geliebte Strickerei. Also habe ich gestern abend den Anfang wieder aufgezogen und nochmals mit 6er Nadeln angefangen. Ist zwar immer noch nicht wirklich entspannt, etwa wie 3,5er Nadeln, aber viel, viel besser als mit diesen 7er Dingern.

On this occasion I realized that somewhere between needle size 6mm and 7mm there is a barrier, which prevents me from having fun at knitting. I had started with size 7mm at first and quickly realized, that bugs me. One alway has the feeling of having to lift a log through a hole too small for it. This is acceptable with knitting, but purling really is exhausting. And exhausting is nothing fit for my beloved knitting. So I redid the beginning again with 6mm needles. This also is not too relaxed as with, say, 3.5mm needles, but it is much, much better than these 7mm things.
