Hillswick und ein halbes Paar Socken | Hillswick and half a pair of socks

Mein heutiger Beitrag macht mir ganz besondere Freude. Neben anderen Dingen arbeite ich gerade an zwei spannenden Projekten. Das eine ist meine Februarsocke, das andere ist der Hillswick Lumber nach einem Design von Ann Feitelsen.

Reporting today is a special joy for me. Apart from some other things I'm working at two interesting projects. One is my February sock, the other is the Hillswick Lumber in a design of Ann Feitelsen.

Die Februarsocken sind ein Eigenentwurf. Offensichtlich bringe ich es nicht fertig, mich an ein Losverfahren zu halten, da wehre ich mich innerlich, wenn ich auf ein Design grade keine Lust habe. Diesmal habe ich es anders gemacht: Ich habe in meine Wollmeisen-Kiste gegriffen und ein Garn rausgezogen. Ich glaube, das ist das Muster "Kräuterbeet", aber ich bin mir nicht sicher. Eigentlich ist es auch egal, das Ganze sah für mich aus wie die Farben eines Elbenwaldes. Deshalb habe ich ein bisschen rumprobiert und bin mit diesem Muster rausgekommen. Es ist ein kleines Zopfmüsterchen, das erstaunlich einfach geht (die Zöpfe habe ich nicht verkreuzt, sondern einfach zwei zusammen- und dann die erste nochmals gestrickt, voilá, ein Zopfmuster), und am Schaft habe ich ein Motiv des Elbensterns genommen, das es bei Ravelry gab.

Das Motiv war in Teilen fehlerhaft, deshalb habe ich da ziemlich rumgeschustert, bis es passte. Dennoch wird das ein kurzes Vergnügen, ich habe diese Socke gestern nachmittag um vier angefangen und eben abgekettet (mit natürlich Pausen dazwischen, die Haushalt und Schlafen hießen). Vermutlich wird das Motiv nicht sehr prominent zutage treten, aber das war mir irgendwie wurscht. Ich weiß, dass es da ist, und trage so die "Gnade der Valar" an meinen Füßen. Ferse ist eine Bumerangferse aus dem genialen Sockenworkshop, die ist wirklich prima, weil sie keine Löcher macht.

This month's socks are a design of my own. Apparently I'm not very good at picking a design at random. There is some inner resistence to knit what I'm not feeling like it. So I changed my strategy this time: I went to my box of Wollmeisen and randomly picked a colour. I believe the colour is "Kräuterbeet", but I'm not sure. I don't care very much, this skein reminded me of the colours of an Elben forest. Therefore I tried a bit and came up with this pattern. It's a cable pattern, which is pretty easy (I don't cross the cables, but k2tog and then knit into the first stich again, and voilá, there it is, a cable pattern), and knitted the Evenstar motif I found in Ravelry at the front of the leg.

I struggled a bit with the chart and in the end had to make some changes since the chart had a mistake and some notations which didn't seem to fit. Still it will be a short joy, I started the sock yesterday at four and just cast off (with some breaks of household and sleep and conversations etc.). Maybe the motiv isn't all too visible, but I don't care very much. I know it is there and so I'm wearing the "Grace of the Valar" at my feet. The heel is a short row heel from a German sock instruction book. It really is fantastic, there are no holes in sight. 

Die Hillswick Jacke musste ich anschlagen. Ich hatte keine mehrfarbigen Projekte mehr in Arbeit bis auf eine Jacke, die für diesen Winter zu spät und für die Jahreszeit zu dick ist. Außerdem habe ich große Lust darauf gehabt und das Garn ist ja sowieso schon hier.

Die Maschenprobe förderte zutage, dass ich mit Nadelstärke 2,0 stricken muss, um auch nur in die Nähe der angegebenen Maschenzahl zu kommen. Ich habe 27 Maschen auf 10cm, angegeben sind 32 Maschen auf 10cm. Deshalb stricke ich Größe M. Es ist reine Freude, diesem Gestrick zuzuschauen, wie es sich entwickelt, deshalb hat auch die Jacke schon etwas Fortschritt zu verzeichnen.

Eigentlich wollte ich ja kein Rippenbündchen machen, aber alles andere hätte von dem großartigen Muster abgelenkt. Deshalb habe ich mich durch diese furchtbaren Reihen gekämpft, damit ich anfangen konnte, "richtig" zu stricken.

Von dieser Jacke gibts zwei Bilder, um mal zu zeigen, wie schwierig diese Fotografiererei ist. Ich kann ja bei meiner Kamera den Weißabgleich einstellen. Weil ich diese schönen Farben möglichst realistisch darstellen wollte, habe ich mehrere Einstellungen probiert und völlig unterschiedliche Farben rausbekommen. Ich habe die Bilder verkleinert und ansonsten komplett unverändert gelassen. Was sich in keinem Weißabgleich darstellen lässt, ist das leuchtende Lila, das in den Peerie Patterns, also den kleinen Zwischenmustern, drin ist.

Hätte mir einer vor drei Jahren gesagt, dass ich mal so etwas für mich stricken würde, ich hätte ihn oder sie für komplett irre gehalten. Jetzt freue ich mich auf das Ergebnis.

I simply had to cast on the Hillswick Lumber. There are no stranded projects any more with the exception of a coat, which is too late for this winter and too thick for the weather at the moment. And I wanted badly to start this one, the yarn is in my stash since May last year. So here we go.

The gauge swatch showed that I have to knit the thing in needle size 0 in order to come anywhere near the given gauge. I've got 27 stitches to four inches, given are 32 stitches to four inches. Therefore I'm knitting the size M. It is pure joy to watch this project to unfold its beauty, so there is some progress here.

I did want to avoid corrugated rib, but everything else would have drawn attention from the gorgeous pattern. So I fought my way through those rows in order to be able to start the "real" knitting.

There are two pictures of the same image. I wanted to show how hard this taking pictures thing really is. I have some options for the white balace in my camera. Because I wanted to display those stunning colours as genuine as possible I experimented a bit and got, as you can see, entirely different colours with different white balances. I resized the pictures and left them otherwise unchanged. In any of those versions you unfortunately can't see the brilliant violet in the peerie patterns.

Had anyone told me three years ago I would knit something like that for myself, I would have thought, he or she is crazy. Now I'm looking very much forward to the result.
