Wird es langweilig? | Is it getting boring?

In meinem Leben passiert grade gar nicht soooo viel. Ich habe meinen Job gewechselt, was nicht wirklich spektakulär ist, weil selbe Firma (seit deutlich über 20 Jahren) und sogar selbe Abteilung. Spannend ist der Inhalt, Kommunikationsberatung, aber darüber kann und mag ich hier gar nicht so viel erzählen.

My life is not very eventful at the moment. I changed my job, which is not spectacular really, since it's the same company (for substantially more than 20 years) and even the same department. Thrilling is, what I'm doing, communication consultancy, but this is not the place to talk about that. 

Der Aufgalopp, der zu dem Jobwechsel geführt hat, ist jetzt rum und schmerzt nur noch peripher, ich habe Gottseidank Hilfe gehabt und meine Burnout-Behandlung hat auch unglaublich gute Dienste geleistet.

The preliminaries to this change of job are over and out and it rarely hurts. Thank God I had a lot of help and my burn-out treatment worked really well in favour of me. 

Immerhin ist das unglaublich großartige Ergebnis dieses Huddels, dass ich jetzt bei Decke 2 in den letzten Zügen liege (Fäden vernähen und einmal ringsrum häkeln, ist aber grade zu warm dafür) und unglaublichen Spaß an den Patches für Decke 3 dieses Jahr habe.

After all there is a stunning effect to this rather difficult time: I'm about to finish blanket N° 2 (darn in ends and crochet edging, which I can't do at the moment - too hot) and I love making patches for blanket N° 3 this year. 

Außerdem bringen mich solche Ereignisse gerne mal dazu, dass ich mich in meinem Privatleben ebenfalls neu sortiere. Daher werde ich diese Woche (Urlaub, jawohl!) mal wieder ein Zimmer in der Wohnung ausmisten. Ich mache das regelmäßig, weil bei mir das Umzugsausräumen einfach seit Jahren mangels Umzug flachfällt. Und da ich eine passionierte Jägerin und Sammlerin bin, muss ich sehr aufpassen, dass die Bude nicht zumüllt. Daher habe ich ein paar Regeln, die mich zwingen, meine Sachen im Zaum zu halten. Dazu gehört, dass ich Sachen konsequent weggebe oder wegschmeiße, die ich übers Jahr nicht mehr in der Hand hatte und die nicht geliebte Erbstücke sind. So habe ich Wolle, Klamotten und Bücher einigermaßen im Zaum, jetzt kommt das Arbeitszimmer dran, was mich nicht sehr freut, weil ich darum seit Jahren einen großen Bogen mache.

Also events like this usually make me sort out my personal life also.So this week (being holidays for me) I'll declutter a room in the flat. I'm doing that regularly, since the decluttering before a move had not been necessary in ages due to a lack of move. And I'm a passionate hunter and gatherer, so I have to be careful not to stockpile stuff in the flat. Therefore I have some rules that keep things under control. Part of these is to consequently get rid of stuff I haven't touched in years, except for beloved heirlooms. Books, clothes and yarn are quite under control (mostly), but this time it's my home office, that needs attending to. I'm not too much looking forward to that, since I've given this area a wide birth for years.

Selbstverständlich möchte Hägar, mein innerer Schweinehund, eine angemessene Entschädigung für die Mühe. Die bekommt er damit, dass ich tatsächlich drei volle Wochen in Urlaub wegfahren darf, wenn ich das jetzt diese Woche auf die Reihe bekomme. Das sollte dem Schlingel genügend Motivation bieten.

Of course, Hägar, my weaker self, needs an appropriate compensation for that effort. He'll get it by us going on holidays for three whole weeks later, if I manage to do what needs doing in this week. So this should keep the little rascal motivated.

Aber noch habe ich nicht angefangen, deshalb gibts heute leider wieder die Serie neu entstandener Patches.
But I haven't started yet, so today there's another series of finished patches. 

Nummer 19 gefällt mir, weil es farbenfroh ist. Allerdings siehts ein bisschen so aus wie das Patch eines Kindes, das vogelwild einfach irgendwelche Muster hintereinander gesetzt hat. Hätte ich ein bisschen mehr Fantasie gehabt, ich hätt mir das selbst nochmals ausgedacht. So bleibt es beim Wildwuchs.

I like N° 19, because it is colourful. However, it looks a bit like the design of a child trying out patterns randomly. Had I had more fantasy last week, I would have figured out the thing in a more orderly fashion. So it's more like a wild garden.


 

Nummer 20 war sehr unspektakulär zu stricken, aber eine interessante Art zu verzopfen. Da wird sehr selten gezopft, die beiden Zopfstreifen entstehen eher durch das Lochmuster dazwischen. Liegt ziemlich flach und sieht faszinierend aus.

N° 20 was quite unspectacular knitting. However the cabling was interesting. It happend very rarely. The two cable threads develop not by cabling, but the lace pattern between cables. Makes it lie more flat and looks quite fascinating.

Nummer 21 ist noch ein Muster aus GAAA, soll Herzen darstellen und hat eine Symbolik der vielen Geschichten von vielen Menschen, die Medallions von ihren Liebsten tragen. Hat sich mir nicht so sehr erschlossen, aber Stricken war angenehm.

N°21, again from GAAA, shows hearts and has the symbol of the stories of people and their lockets containing loved ones. I couldn't figure that out in connection to the patch, but knitting was nice. 

Nummer 22. ist aus GAA von Eugene Beugler. Das ist ein sehr interessanter Mensch, irgendwo in den 80ern, der vor allem Lace strickt und wunderschöne Sachen entwirft. Das Tuch, das zu diesem Muster gehört, habe ich in einem meiner Bücher und wollte das schon immer mal stricken. Da war das eine gute Gelegenheit, das mal auszuprobieren. Das Patch wird in der Mitte provisorisch angeschlagen und dann nach oben und unten gestrickt.

N° 22 is from GAA by Eugene Beugler. He's a quite interesting person, somewhere in his eighties, has been knitting lace and designing beautiful things for ages. I've got the shawl with this pattern in one of my books and have been wanting to knit that. So this was a good opportunity to have a first go with it. The thing is provisionally cast on in the middle and then knitted up and down.  

Nummer 23 habe ich ungefähr viermal angefangen. Es ist auch aus GAAA und wirkt bei mir ziemlich anders als im Buch. Keine Ahnung, wieso, ich habe ihre Anweisungen genauestens verfolgt (nicht meine starke Seite eigentlich). Aber trotzdem siehts ganz fein aus.

I've had about four goes at N° 23. It's also from GAAA and my version looks distinctly different from the one in the book. No idea, why, I followed her instructions to the letter (mostly not my strong point). Still I like my result. 

Nummer 24 ist aus GNAA und genau das, was man von Debbie New erwartet. Sie ist eine Experimentalstrickerin und macht das verrückteste Zeug. Mit dieser Art kraus rechts hat sie mal ein Bild ihrer Großmutter gestrickt, außerdem gibts Kaffeetassen und ein seetaugliches kleines Laceboot. Witzig! Okay, ich musste für dieses Patch 40 Fäden vernähen, das war jetzt die nicht ganz so geliebte Seite des Ganzen.

N° 24 is from GNAA. It's exactly what you expect from Debbie New. She is an experimental knitter making the most unusual things. With this free form garterstitch knitting she made a more than lifesize picture of her  grandmother, also there's coffee cups and a seaworthy little lace boat. Funny! Well, knitting this patch meant darning in 40 (in words: fourty!) ends, that was the not so beloved part of this pattern.

Nummer 25 gefällt mir sehr gut. Den Mittelteil habe ich irgendwo bei Ravelry gefunden, den Rest darumherum habe ich mir selbst ausgedacht. Ich mag die Fleur de Lis sehr gerne, deshalb wollte ich das Motiv in meiner Decke drinhaben.

I like N° 25. The middle part was part of a pattern in Ravelry, the rest around this I figured out myself. I love the Fleur de Lis, therefore I wanted this motif within my blanket.

Nunja, so langsam muss ich mir Gedanken darüber machen, wie ich das Ganze anordne. Ich habe jetzt schon so viele wunderschöne Decken gesehen, da will ich meine nicht versauen durch blöde Sortierung. ABER Hilfe naht! Nächstes Wochenende treffe ich meine Strickladies, dann sollen die mir helfen, das Ganze in eine Ordnung oder geordnete Unordnung zu legen.

Well, no I will have to start figuring out how to arrange all those patches. I've seen a whole lot of beautiful blankets, so I don't want to arse up mine by silly sorting. BUT there' help coming! Next weekend I'll meet my knitting ladies, so they might help me figuring out an arrangement or well sorted disarrangement.

Weiter gehts | And on we go

Irgendwie macht dieses Patch Stricken süchtig. Sobald ich eins fertig habe, muss ich direkt das nächste suchen und weitermachen. Das Ganze ist interessant und spannend.

Somehow this patch knitting is addictive. As soon as I've finished one, I desperately look for the next one and go on. The whole thing is interesting, even thrilling.

Apropos spannend, ich habe jetzt die ersten 17 Patches gespannt und die werden wirklich wun-der-schön! Und ich kriege sie gut auf Maß, selbst die Unförmigen, wobei das Auffädeln auf Spannstäbe wirklich anstrengend ist. Bei der ersten Version habe ich fast eine Stunde gebraucht, bis die Dinger gut ausgelegen haben.

Talking about thrilling, I blocked the first 17 patches and they are beautiful! I manage to block them to measurement, even the misshapen ones. Threading the things on the wires is really hard. My first attempt took more than an hour until the patches were even.

So, dann schauen wir uns mal meine neue Ausbeute an: | So, let's have a look at my new proceedings:

Premiere, hier kommt das erste Patch mit Grün drin. Ich bin noch nicht sicher, ob ich das mag und ob das in meine Decke passt. Im Zweifelsfall mache ich da Kissen draus. Da ich aber einige Blumenpatches machen möchte und die Ranken darin grün sein sollen, brauche ich die Farbe in den Patches, sonst passt das nicht in die Balance. Trotzdem weiß ich noch nicht, ob mir das gefällt. Vielleicht komme ich auch ohne diese Balance aus.

Premiere, this is the first patch with green in it. I'm not sure yet whether I like it and whether it will fit into my afghan. If I decide no on both counts, I'll make a pillow out of the green patches. Since I would like some flowery patches and the trellises are to be green, I need the colour in the patches or the balance will be off. Still I don't know whether I like it. Maybe I can do without this balance.

Das nächste Patch ist gleich zweimal eigentlich falsch: Das ist der zweite Baum und das zweite Patch mit dicken, fetten Noppen, die ich eigentlich nicht mehr machen wollte. Aber ich finde das so schön gestaltet, also habe ich es gestrickt. Hat sich gelohnt, es sieht großartig aus und hat genügend Unterschiede zu dem anderen Baum, dass das funktioniert, wenn die Dinger nicht in der Nähe zueinander liegen.

The next patch is actually wrong in two points: It's the second tree and the second patch with these huge fat bobbles, which I was to refrain from after the first. But I liked the design a lot, so I knit it. And it was worthwhile, it looks great and has enough difference to the other tree. So it will work out, if the things are not too close to each other. 

Das letzte Patch ist einfach nur ein Bad in Farbe und Formen. Ich habe die mittlere Blüte anders gemacht als vorgesehen, weil ich diese komische Rose nicht verstanden habe. Mir gefällt das Teil sehr, es ist spielerisch und fröhlich und macht die Decke bunt und interessant. So will ich noch einige machen. Hab ja erst überlegt, ob ich ein paar Blumenpatches häkeln soll, aber ich glaube, ich schaue einfach noch nach ein paar anderen solchen. GNAA bietet mir da einiges, und ich werde auch noch andere finden, bis genügend von dieser Sorte da sind. 

The last patch is simply a sea full of colour and forms. Love it! I changed the middle flower, because I didn't understand this strange rose. It is playful and cheerful and makes the afghan colourful and interesting. I want more of those. I first considered crocheting some flower patches, but I think I just look for more of those. GNAA gives me several and I'll find more, until I have enough.

So langsam freue ich mich auf die Decke. Genau genommen würde ich jetzt gerne eine Woche lang nichts anderes machen als Patches stricken. Leider gehe ich einem Lohnerwerb nach, also geht das nicht. Und überhaupt, wenn das alles fertig ist, muss ich 35 Patches aneinander nähen. Das wird nochmals eine interessante Aufgabe, ähem.

Slowly I start looking forward to this blanket. So be precise, I would love to spend a week just knitting more patches. Unfortunately I'm a hired labourer so nothing doing. And above all, when having finished knitting there will be 35 patches to be sown together. So that will be an interesting task ...

Was tue ich, wenn ich nicht stricke? | What do I do when not knitting?

Nunja, ich stricke. Es hat sich gezeigt, dass zum einen die Neuralgie ganz schnell weg war (gesegnet sei meine Medizinfrau!), zum anderen habe ich beschlossen, das kann nicht schlecht sein, wenn mein gesamtes Wohlbefinden so schnell besser wird. Und ich habe Sachen ausgesucht, die ich nur ganz langsam stricken kann, Entrelac und Doppelstrick.

Well, I knit. It turned out that the neuralgia vanished quite quickly (blessed bei my medicine woman!). And I decided, it can't be wrong to knit if my whole wellbeing increases so tremendously. So I picked patterns that I could only knit very, very slowly.

Deshalb kann ich jetzt wieder fünf neue Patches zeigen, die ich ganz langsam und fröhlich gestrickt habe.

So I have five more patches to show, which I knit slowly and happily.

Das Entrelac-Teil hat viel Spaß gemacht. Da war ich froh, dass ich die Forest Path Stole gestrickt habe (das war letztes Jahr während meiner bloglosen Zeit, daher der Link zu Ravelry), denn die Originalanleitung von dem Patch wollte, dass ich die Ränder nachträglich anstricke und an zwei Dreieckseiten nachträglich die Kante schön mache. Musste ich alles nicht dank der Forest Path Stole. Ich konnte das alles direkt beim Stricken machen. Ich habe die Seitenränder direkt mit angestrickt. Außerdem habe ich bei den einzelnen Teilen Schmuckrandmaschen gestrickt (rechts stricken am Ende der Reihe, wie zum Linksstricken abheben am Anfang der Reihe) und die dann nicht hinten versteckt, sondern vorne gezeigt. Das geht, indem man auf der Rückeite die Maschen rechts gestrickt aufnimmt und auf der Vorderseite entsprechend links gestrickt.

The basketweave-patch was a lot of fun. I was happy to have had the experience with the Forest Path Stole (which I knitted last year in my blogless time, therefore the link to Ravelry), since the original pattern suggested to attach the borders in the end and make some sort of chain-edgings to two edges of the triangles. I didn't have to do all that thanks to Forest Patch Stole. I attached the borders as I went. Also I made special edge stitches (knit at the end of row, slip as if to purl at the beginning of row) and displayed them on the right side by picking up and knitting stitches on the wrong side and picking up and purling on the right side.

Bei dem Ding mit den verdrehten Kanten hoffe ich, dass sich das in Form spannen lässt, weil es vor dem Spannen doch sehr zusammenschrumpelt ist.

The thing with the twisted squares will hopefully block to measurement, since it is a bit shrivelled before blocking. 

Der Fisch ist ein bisschen lang geworden, zieht sich aber gut in die Breite, das gleicht das aus. Dafür und für das lettische Mondkreuz habe ich neues Garn verwendet. Ich brauchte für die kommenden bunten Flecken mehr Farbnuancen und die habe ich in Zitron Kimono gefunden, die nur ganz wenig dünner ist als die Merino.

The fish is a bit long, but this will vanish with blocking, since I will have to widen it. For this and the Latvian mooncross I used some new yarn. I needed some more colour shades for the colour patches and found those in Zitron Kimono, which is only a wee bit thinner than the Merino.

Das Doppelstrick-Teil hat zum ersten Mal einen befriedigenden Rand. Ich habe die Maschen aufgenommen, indem ich eine Luftmaschenkette gehäkelt habe und darin auf einem Fädchen die vorderen Maschen, auf dem zweiten Fädchen die hinteren Maschen aufgenommen habe. Am Rand habe ich immer die hintere Masche gestrickt, die vordere abgehoben. Beim Reihenwechsel habe ich dann die Fäden verkreuzt und die erste Masche gestrickt und die hintere dazu abgehoben. Oben abgekettet habe ich, indem ich jeweils die passende vordere und hintere Masche rechts verschränkt zusammengestrickt habe und dann die Maschen ganz normal abgekettet habe. Ist sowas wie Abketten mit drei Nadeln.

The doubleknit patch has for the first time satisfactory edges. I picked up the stitches by crocheting a chain. Out of those I took the front stitches  out of the front strand and the back stitches out of the back strand. The edges where knitted by always knitting the front last stitch and slipping the back last stitch. Then turn, trap the strands and knit the first (then) front stitch and slip the back first stitch. I cast off by knitting the respective front and back stitches together to the back of loop and do the usual cast off with the new stitch. This is a three needle bind-off with just two needles.

Und das Mondkreuzteil hat einfach nur Spaß gemacht. Als nächstes kommen die bunten Patches, dann muss ich genauer planen, was ich tue, weil ich dann eine Vorstellung entwickeln muss, wie ich die Patches zusammenfüge. Dazu muss ich natürlich wissen, welche Farben ich noch benötige für die Patches.

And the mooncrosspatch was simply fun. Next will be the patches with more colours. After those I will have to do some serious planning, because then I will need a good idea on how to attach the patches. So I will know which colours will be needed. 

Und ich sollte so langsam anfangen, die Patches zu spannen, sonst habe ich am Ende 35 Patches (ich brauche nur 35, weil alle auf 26x26cm gespannt werden) zu spannen und kann nicht direkt nach dem letzten Patch anfangen zusammenzunähen.

And I had better start blocking the patches. Else I will have 35 patches to block in the end (I will need just 35 patches after all, since I will be able to block them  to 10.5x10.5 '') before being able to attach them.

Hach, irgendwie ist das aufregend. Und ich glaube, ich werde ab sofort extrem vorsichtig sein mit meiner Strickerei, denn nochmals zwei Tage rumsitzen und nicht wissen, was mit meinen Händen zu tun, will ich definitiv nichtmehr haben.

This is starting to be exciting. And I think I will be extremely cautious with my knitting. I definitely won't need two more days hanging around not knowing what to do with my hands.

Zopfmusterdecke | Aran Afghan

Im Dezember habe ich schonmal von den Anfängen meiner Arandecke erzählt. Jetzt kann ich mal wieder ein paar weitere Patches zeigen.

In December I showed the beginnings of my Aran Aghan. Now it's time to show some further patches.

Ich muss ja mehr Patches stricken, als das Buch enthält, außerdem mag ich nicht alle Muster. Deshalb bin ich immer auf der Suche nach Alternativen. Hinzu kommt, dass ich das Ganze ja nicht einfarbig stricke, sondern insgesamt fünf Farben habe. Daher habe ich mich entschieden, nicht nur einfarbige Zopfmusterpatches zu stricken, sondern auch zweifarbige in unterschiedlichen Techniken. Noch ist nicht so viel davon zu sehen, weil ich den ersten Versuch wegen Dummdenk wieder aufziehen musste. Dennoch, die meisten Patches werden aus den drei Büchern The Great American Aran Afghan (GAAA), The Great North American Afghan (GNAA) und The Great American Afghan (GAA) kommen, weil dort unglaublich viele interessante Techniken "verbaut" sind.

I will have to knit more patches than the book contains, also I don't fancy all of the book. So I'm on the constant lookout for alternatives. Also I'm not knitting it in one colour, but I've got altogether five colours. So I decided to not just knit unicolour aran patches, but also bicoloured or multicoloured in different techniques. Still there is not much of them to see, since I had to frog my first attempt due to silly-me. However, most of my patches will be from the three books The Great American Aran Afghan (GAAA), The Great North American Afghan (GNAA) and The Great American Afghan (GAA), since there is a world of different and interesting patterns.

Heute gibt es fünf Patches, davon das erste hat immerhin schonmal kontrastfarbige Stickerei drauf.

Today there will be five patches,  one of which has at least some embroidery in contrasting colour. 

Die unteren zwei sind aus GAAA (dem untersten Patch fehlen noch zwei Käfer, da muss ich noch entscheiden, ob ich die in Kontrastfarbe haben möchte oder nicht), die oberen drei aus GAA. Jetzt wird es Zeit, ein paar der mehrfarbigen Rosenmuster aus GNAA zu stricken. NOrmalerweise bin ich nicht der Rosen und Girlanden Mädchentyp, aber mit dunkelviolett und lila Farbtönen bin ich praktisch gezwungen, hier etwas süßer zu werden. Das Problem mit dem erforderlichen Grün für irgendwelche Stängel habe ich auch gelöst mit 2 Knäulen Zitron Zeitlos in einem wunderschönen Dunkelgrün.

The lower two are from the GAAA (the lowest one still misses two bugs, where I've yet to decide whether or not I want them in contrasting colour), the upper three are from GAA. Now it's time to do some of the GNAA patterns with beautiful roses on them. Usually I'm not the rose and ornament type of gal, but having dark violet and lilac colours practically forces me to make it sweet. I solved the problem with the necessary green for some stem or other leaves by purchasing 2 skeins of Zitron Zeitlos in a wonderful dark green.

Lasst Farbe herein | Let colour in

Oh, mal wieder sind zwei Wochen vergangen, seit ich etwas gepostet habe. Scheint mein Rhythmus zu werden, auch wenn ich das eigentlich gar nicht will. Dafür wirds heute bunt! Nachdem ich (Gott seis gelobt, gepfiffen und getrommelt) endlich die Heizung ausgeschaltet habe, finde ich das mehr als angemessen.

Oh, it's two weeks since I posted anything. Seems to become my rhythm, although I would like to get back  here  more often. Still, this time it's colours! After having finally switched off the heating (thank God and all her saints and helpers), this is more than appropriate.

Ich habe ja im Moment ein Programm, Vorräte wegzustricken. Das scheint sich zu einer Wollmeisenwegstrickstrategie zu entwickeln. Neiman, eine wunderschöne Anleitung aus Knitty, gibt es bereits als abgeänderte Version. Die Strickkollegin hat von oben mit einer Rundpasse angefangen und dann als Raglan weitergemacht. Diese Idee hat mir gefallen, deshalb habe ich sie übernommen. Mein eigener Versuch vor einiger Zeit ist ja - ähm - gründlich in die Hose gegangen, da war ich froh, diesmal eine fertig ausgerechnete Version übernehmen zu können.

At the moment I'm running a programme to knit up stash yarn. This seems to evolve into a Wollmeise stash yarn knit up strategy. Neiman, a beautiful pattern from Knitty, does have an altered version. The knitting colleague started top-down with a round yoke and proceded with a raglan. I liked the idea, so I adopted it. My own attempt at this some time ago was a complete failure, so I was happy to be able to cling to a calculated version.

Meine Farben (ich weiß nicht, was das genau ist) sind meergrün, blaulila und knallrot, letzteres grade so viel, dass es noch für mich geht, denn eigentlich bin ich überhaupt kein Rot-Typ.

My colours (I don't know the names) are seagreen, bluelilac and sparkling red, the latter just enough to be tolerable for me. Usually I'm no red-type at all.

Stricken geht schnell, auch wenn das dünnes Garn ist und endlose glatt rechte Flächen mir eher Mühe bereiten. Ich lese einfach dabei, dann kriege ich nicht mit, dass die Fortschritte langsam,  aber stetig sind, weil ich in die Geschichte eintauche.

Knitting is fast, even though the yarn is quite thin and endless stockinette stitch is quite mind-numbing to me. I've made it a habit to read while knitting, so I don't see the slow, but steady progress and forget myself in the story.

Ich liebe die Idee, den Saum grade noch ein winziges Bisschen mit Kontrastfarbe zu stricken. Das gibt dem Ganzen ein bisschen Pfiff. Man sieht es nicht auf dem Bild, aber ich habe das noch verstärkt, indem ich ein paar Reihen vor dem Saum mit einem Knäuel in einem etwas dunkleren Grün gestrickt habe.

Diesmal hatte ich keine drei Ärmel, dafür war im ersten Versuch der Körper wieder so bombastisch breit, dass das eher als Zelt denn als Tunika gelten musste. Also musste ich ausgerechnet die glatt rechte Wüste zweimal stricken. Nunja, ich hab jetzt wieder aufgeholt (zwei Stunden Zugfahren helfen doch enorm) und werde mich jetzt an die letzten Stücke machen. 

I love the idea to knit just a few rows in contrasting yarn at the hem. It gives the thing a bit of additional kick. I accessorized this effect by knitting a few rows before the hem in green, which is just a shade darker. 

This time I didn't knit three sleeves for once, but my first attempt at the body was so wide, this wasn't near a tunic, but more like a tent. So of all I had to reddo the stockinette-desert. Well, I caught up again (two hours of commute do help) and will now get back for  the final parts.

Als ich dachte, ich müsste wegen der Pulli-Überbreite das Ding in die Dummzeug-Ecke packen, habe ich gleich noch ein weiteres Wollmeisen-Stück angefangen. Auch da hat mich jemand infiziert, und wieder habe ich ziemlich viel glatt rechts vor mir. Es geht um die Anleitung "Dark and stormy", eine Jacke mit ein bisschen Zopfmuster hinten und ansonsten sehr viel glatt rechts.

Das Bild kommt der Farbe nichtmal nahe, es ist ein wunderschönes Kornblumenblau. Ich stricke mit einem Faden Merino 100% in der Farbe "Kornblume" und einem Faden Lace der Farbe "Lapislazuli". Das Ergebnis ist unglaublich intensiv, aber schön intensiv und nicht einfach knallig. 

When I thought I would have to toss the sweater to the naughty corner due to its huge size, I started another Wollmeise sweater. Again somebody infected me with the idea, and again I'm facing miles of stockinette. It's the pattern "dark and stormy", a cardigan with a bit of cabling at the back and lots of plain knitting.

The picture doesn't even come close to the colour. It is a beautiful bachelor's button blue. I'm knitting with one thread Merino 100% in the colour "Kornblume" and one thread with Lace in "Lapislazuli". The result is intense, but beautifully intense and not just gaudy.

Nunja, und um das Bunte noch zu verstärken, habe ich jetzt auch meinen Badezimmerteppich fertig. Wieder dreifache Mikrofaser bunt in jede Menge Stäbchen verwandelt.

Well, and to reinforce the colour thing, my bath rug is done. Again three threads of microfibre turned into lots and lots of single crochets.

Einer der nächsten Posts wird dann ein Bericht über alle die Bücher, die ich während meiner Strickorgie die letzte Zeit gehört und gelesen habe. Waren ein paar Wunderschöne dabei. Mehr sage ich nicht. Jedenfalls jetzt noch nicht.

Neue Garderobe | New wardrobe

Im Moment habe ich glorioserweise frei. Ich nutze die Zeit, gebe mir einen großen Strickoverflow, höre dabei unglaublich viele Bücher und halte die Klappe, was eigentlich der Zweck der Übung ist. Das macht Spaß wie selten, deshalb bin ich auch ziemlich effizient und habe doch tatsächlich drei Oberteile fertiggestellt. Zwei sind für das Frühjahr, eine wird eine Jacke, die erst im nächsten Winter zu wirklichen Ehren kommt.

At present I'm gloriously on holidays. I've used the time giving myself to a big huge knitting overflow listening to tons of books and keeping my trap shut, which is what this time is for. This is loads of fun and therefore I'm frightfully efficient, having finished three new sweaters. Two are for spring, the cardigan will come into its own next winter. 



Über den Pullunder und die Jacke und ihre Tricks und Kniffe, mir eine lange Nase zu drehen, habe ich schon erzählt und ziemlich griselige Bilder gezeigt. Jetzt sind sie immer noch nicht gewaschen, aber immerhin anständiger fotografiert. 

I talked in my last post about the pullunder and the cardigan and their tricks to cook a snook at me, showing rather dodgy pictures. Now they are both finished, still not blocked, but the pictures are at least better.   

Den Pullunder habe ich mir selbst ausgedacht. Er besteht im Wesentlichen aus drei Mustern: großes Perlmuster oben, kraus rechts als Übergang und das Muster "Streifenwanzen und Schleier" aus "Omas Strickgeheimnisse" (Seite 94, falls es jemanden interessiert). Weil ich diesmal keinen Pikotrand wollte, habe ich einfach Maschen aufgenommen und ein paar Reihen glatt links als Abschluss gestrickt.

The pullunder is a product out of my own head. It consists mainly of three patterns: moss stitch at the yoke, garter stitch as a transition and a lace pattern called "Streifenwanzen und Schleier" from "Omas Strickgeheimnisse" (on page 94, if anybody is interested). I didn't want a picot edging this time, so I just picked up stitches and purled a few rows.

Ein kleines Detail habe ich noch fotografiert: Ich wollte, dass der Pullunder ein bisschen tunikamäßig wird, habe ich einfach unter dem Arm ein paar Maschen weiterhin im großen Perlmuster gestrickt (mit einer rechts verschränkten Maschen an beiden Seiten) und bei jedem Mustersatz rechts und links davon zwei Maschen aufgenommen.  Auf dem Bild sieht das noch ziemlich verzogen aus, das wird aber, wenn das Ding erstmal anständig gewaschen ist.

I took another picture of a little detail: I wanted the pullunder to flare out a wee bit. So I started with a few stitches in moss stich under the arms (with one knit tbl stitch at each end) and picked up two stitches right and left of it in every pattern repeat of the lace pattern. On the picture it looks a bit distorted. This will improve once the thing is properly blocked.




Über das dritte Teil habe ich noch gar nichts geschrieben. Letztes Jahr habe ich von meinem Strickcafé zum Geburtstag wunderbares Garn geschenkt bekommen, Lang Seta Tweed. Das Zeug verstrickt sich ähnlich schwierig wie Rowan Summer Tweed. Es riecht sogar ähnlich. Aber am Ende ist das alles wert, weil das Ergebnis einfach genial ist. Und ich habe noch nie in meinem Leben einen Pullover besessen (jedenfalls selbstgestrickt), der 325 Gramm wiegt. Federleicht also.

So far I haven't talked about the third sweater. Last year I received for my birthday beautiful yarn from my Strickcafé. It's Lang Seta Tweed. The stuff knits up as difficult as Rowan Summer Tweed. It even smells similarly. But in the end the effort is worth it, since I love the result. And never in my life I've possessed a sweater (hand-knitted at any rate), which weighs 11.5 oz. It's a feather weight.

Als Muster habe ich Leaving von Anne Hanson gewählt, in der Pulloverversion. Den hatte ich schonmal aus anderem Garn angefangen, aber das hat einfach nicht gepasst. Mit diesem Garn hat das wunderbar funktioniert.

My choice for a pattern is the sweater version of Leaving by Anne Hanson. I had attempted this with another yarn, but that wouldn't fit. It's perfect with this yarn.

Die Anleitung ist prima geschrieben, sehr verständlich, gut durchdacht und vermutlich mit der Welt größter Anzahl an Größen (ich glaube 12 oder so). Trotzdem kann man dem sehr gut folgen und mir gefällt das Ergebnis sehr. In Wirklichkeit sieht das Ganze nicht aus wie ein Kleid, das ist nur das Foto.

The pattern is very well written, well designed, good to follow and with the world's biggest range of sizes (12 or something like that). Still it's easy to follow and I love the result. In reality it doesn't look like a dress as it does in the picture.

Und schließlich habe ich noch einen Pullover angefangen (nach drei Fertigen fand ich, ich darf das). Er wird für ein Familienmitglied. Sie hat sich einen zweifarbig gemusterten Pullover gewünscht, etwas wie Norway oder Faroe aus Starmores "Fishermen's Sweaters". Mir hat allerdings der rote Streifen bei Norway nicht gefallen und ich fand die Muster in Faroe nicht so schön zusammen. Also stricke ich Faroe mit dem Muster von Norway.

Eventually I started another sweater (I found that okay after having finished three). It will be for a family member. She wanted a bicoloured patterned sweater, something like Norway or Faroe from "Fishermen's Sweaters" by Alice Starmore. However I wasn't too fond of the red stripe in Norway and the pattern combination of Faroe. So I'm knitting Faroe with the main pattern from Norway.

Das Ganze aus Holst Samarkand, eine Woll-Seidenmischung. Das Garn hat eine Lauflänge von 288 Metern auf 50 Gramm, also sehr dünn. Erst wollte ich das doppelt verstricken, aber das würde zu warm und hat mir nicht gefallen, weils doch sehr grob wird. Jetzt verstricke ich es einfach, mit einer Nadelstärke von 2,0 (seufz).

It will be made from Holst Samarkand. It's a woll-silk-blend. Yardage is 314 yards for 1.76 oz, quite tiny in all. First I was thinking of knitting with two strands, but that would be very warm indeed and I didn't like the result seeming a bit chunky. So I'm knitting single-stranded, which basically means taking needle size 0 (sigh).

Mit diesem Garn funktioniert das normale Bündchenmuster für Fair Isle Muster nicht (ich kenne den deutschen Ausdruck nicht, im Englischen heißt das "corrugated rib"), es rollt sich nach oben. Nach einigen gründlichen Fehlversuchen habe ich statt dessen einen Saum gestrickt mit einem hoffentlich ähnlichen Muster zum Hauptmuster. Hier hat sich gezeigt, wie unterschiedlich ich einfarbig und zweifarbig stricke: Der innere Teil vom Saum hat 24 Reihen, der äußere zweifarbige Teil hat 19 Reihen.

The usual corrugated rib doesn't work with this yarn, it curls upwards. After some false starts I knitted a hem instead with a hopefully fitting pattern to the main pattern. This shows, how much more loose I knit stranded: The inner hem in unicolour has 24 rows, the outer hem has 19 rows. 

Also das ist nun wieder der Beginn einer neuen Reise. | So this is me beginning a new journey.

Unterwegs | On the road

So, und jetzt gehts an die Arbeit: Dieses Jahr habe ich mir überlegt, mal bei 12 für 13 mitzumachen. Das hat zum Ziel, in 2013 12 Oberteile zu stricken. Eigentlich ist das kein Ziel (für mich jedenfalls), sondern ein Weg. Wenns nicht hinhaut auch gut. Trotzdem mag ich solche Herausforderungen, wenn sie nicht verbissen gehandhabt werden.

Well, and now it's work. This year I'm participating at 12 for 13. This aims at having 12 finished sweaters for 2013. It's not a true objective (to me at any rate), but more of a road. If it doesn't work out, that's fine with me. I like challenges which I needn't doggedly accomplish.

Zunächst der Saint Denis Cardigan von Veronik Avery. Großartige Anleitung, sehr ungewöhnlich (das sieht man erst, wenn fertig), und lehrt mich wieder mal, wie hilfreich es ist, wenn man die Anleitung tatsächlich liest und nicht denkt, (a) man wüsste es besser oder (b) man hat schon verstanden. Beides stimmt bei dieser Anleitung nicht, also genau gar nicht.

First it's the Saint Denis Cardigan by Veronik Avery. Great pattern, very unusual (you will see that when it's finished). And it again teaches me the lesson that it helps to read the instruction and do not think (a) I know it better or (b) I know what she means. Both is plain and simple wrong.

Beispiele gefällig? Gerne! | Would you like some examples? I'll give them with exquisit pleasure!

1. Bei der Abnahme für die Ärmel steht, man nehme zwei Maschen rechts und links ab und wiederhole das siebenmal. Kennen wir, machen wir, gell? Tja, sind aber beidseitig jeweils zwei Maschen. Das kapiert man etwa mehrere Stunden später, wenn man sich die Haare einzeln ausgerupft hat, weil man ums Verrecken viel zuviele Maschen übrig hat und den Fehler nicht findet. Das fällt natürlich erst auf, wenn es an den Halsausschnitt geht.

1. The instructions for the armhole shaping say, decrease two stitches right and left and repeat that seven times. We all know, what to do, don't we? Well, in this case it's two stitches each side. You find that out after several hours calculating, ripping out your hair and not by your life finding out, where the mistake is. Of course you find that out only at the instructions for the neck, because you have way too many stitches left.

2. Dann strickt man natürlich erstmal das Rückenteil und da steht dann, bitte von Beginn Ärmelabnahme bis oben zur Schulterschräge 19cm stricken. 19cm? Bei meiner Größe? Vergiss es!! Und ich stricke dann schonmal noch ein gutes Stück dazu, damit der Ärmel auch wirklich reinpasst und mein Arm in den Ärmel. Tja, leider ist es so, dass sie eine wirklich geniale Schulterschräge entworfen hat, die auf dem Rücken sitzt. Wenn man sich die Anleitung fürs Vorderteil durchliest, erkennt man, dass da steht, bis obenhin sinds 30cm, dann alles abketten. Also musste ich das auch wieder aufziehen, wollte ich nicht Armausschnitte haben, die ungefähr an der Taille beginnen.

2. Of course you start by knitting the back. There it says, knit 7.5'' from the beginning of the armhole to the shoulder shaping. 7.5 inches? In my size? Forget it!! And I gave it a good more length, so my sleeve will fit into the hole and my arm will fit into the sleeve. Well, unfortunately she figured out a truly magnificent shoulder shaping, which is located on the back and not on top of the shoulder. Reading the instructions for the front, the armhole length is 12'' before cast off. So I had to rip that out again, if I didn't want to have the armholes starting around the waist. 

Insgesamt macht das aber sehr viel Spaß, auch wenn das Garn so dermaßen kratzig ist, dass ich mir eine Ritze in den Finger gestrickt habe. Ich mag Tweedgarn und die Jacke wird großartig, aber jetzt muss ich erstmal pausieren, bis der Finger wieder heile ist.

It's a lot of fun knitting that, even if the yarn is very scratchy, so scratchy, I knitted a crack into my yarn finger. I love tweedy yarn and the cardigan will be great, but now I need a break for my finger to heal.

Das ist dann die Zeit, an einem Pullunder zu stricken. Ich habe etwas ähnliches schonmal gestrickt, allerdings aus Mikrofasergarn und das zieht sich und pillt. Jetzt wollte ich dasselbe nochmals aus etwas edlerem Garn mit ein paar Veränderungen. Gewählt habe ich eine Merino-Seidenmischung. Das Ganze ist, wie man sieht, diesmal von oben gestrickt, als Raglan, danach geht es weiter mit einem wunderschönen Lacemuster.

This is the time to knit at my vest. I made something like that before. It was made of microfibre and grew and pills. So I wanted something like that made from better yarn with some adjustments. I chose a merino-silk-blend. As you can see it's knitted top-down with a raglan and it changes then to a beautiful lace pattern.

Dieses Teil hat mich auch schon einigen Schweiß und Frust gekostet. Lernerfahrung hier: Nein, man sollte nicht oben großes Perlmuster stricken und dann denken, dieselbe Maschenzahl in Lochmuster wird halt ein bisschen a-förmig. Es wird nicht a-förmig, sondern zeltförming und zwar so, dass es die 50er Jahre Babydolls wie eine enge Röhre aussehen lässt. Also hab ich aufgezogen, ungefähr 10cm weniger Maschen aufgenommen und wieder runtergestrickt.

This thing cost me a lot of sweat and frustration. My learning experience here: No, you can't knit in moss stitch and believe that the same stitch number in lace will give it a bit of  an a-shape. It's not a-shape, but tent-shape and makes the babydolls of the 1950ies look tight. So I ripped it out, cast on about 4'' worth of stitches less and knitted down again. 

Nunja, manchmal lohnt sich eine Maschenprobe, auch wenn man keine Anleitung hat. War diesmal kein Babydoll, aber immer noch eine mittelgroße 3-Zimmer-Wohnung. Immerhin hatte ich dann schon so viel gestrickt, dass ich dieses Mal die wirklich unglaublich innovative Idee hatte, das als Maschenprobe auszumessen. Im dritten Versuch wird das Teil passen, eine sehr moderate A-Form bekommen und damit Nummer sechs meiner Jahresherausforderung werden.

Well, sometimes a gauge swatch does pay off, even if you don't use a pattern. The second attempt was no babydoll, but still a healthy 2 bedroom flat. At least I had knitted enough that I had the radically innovative idea to take this as my gauge swatch. So my third attempt will fit. It'll have a moderate a-shape and will be number six of my 12 for 13 challenge.

Trotz der jetzt passenden Maschenzahl hatte ich zu wenig Garn. Und ich war ziemlich sicher, dass ich das Zeug schon vor einiger Zeit gekauft hatte, so dass die Wahrscheinlichkeit, es nochmals zu bekommen, äußerst übersichtlich war.

Although I had the right number of stitches now, I knew I would run out of yarn. And I was pretty sure I had bought this stuff quite some time ago, so I had a mere off-chance to get more.

Glück für mich, ich habe am Samstag genau zwei fehlende Knäule sogar in der richtigen Partie ergattert. Es waren die zwei letzten Knäule und sie werden ausreichen.

Lucky me, on Saturday I got hold of two balls, even in the right dye lot. It were the last two balls and they will be enough.

Ich bin die Windsbraut | I am the windsbride

Windsbräute sind ja gerne Schiffe. Auf hoher See eilen sie geschwind mit dem Wind, nichts hält sie auf, die Welt von Freiheit und Abenteuer. Dreht der Wind, dreht sie sich mit. So bin ich, jawohl. Okay, das mit dem Schlachtschiff und meinem Aussehen lasse ich als Witz jetzt mal weg, aber das mit dem Wind und dem Drehen passt dann schon irgendwie.

Very often ships are called windsbride. The speed with the wind at high sea, nothing will stop them, a world of freedom and adventures. If the wind turns, they turn. That's me. Well, I leave out the gag with the battleship and my appearance, turning in the wind somehow fits better.  

Hab ich beschlossen, keine Wolle zu kaufen? Hab ich mir überlegt, ich will nur noch ein Projekt stricken? Hab ich in Windeseile eine 4/5 Jacke gestrickt und muss nur noch den einen Ärmel fertigmachen? Hab ich? Hab ich? Hab ich?

Did I decide to stay away from yarn purchases? Did I decide to knit one project at a time? Did I - swift as the wind - knit four fifth of a cardigan and just have half a sleeve to go? Did I? Did I? Did I?

Jau, und jetzt das. Eine Mitstrickerin hat eine wunderbare Mütze angefangen. Großartiges Teil, Newsboy heißt sie. Und meine Wolldealerin hatte das perfekte Garn in der perfekten Farbe mit exakt der richtigen Menge an Knäueln. Und ich habs angefangen, das Teil. Schönes Muster, sieht richtig gut aus. Das Zeug strickt sich prima, ich hab inzwischen von Rundnadel auf acht (in Worten: acht) Spielnadeln gewechselt, weil die Stricktechnik (irgendwas mit wechselweise abgehobenen Maschen) so knallfest wird, dass man nix mehr schieben kann. Jetzt hab ich 800 Meter mehr Garn, ein hundsschwieriges Projekt und was tut unsere Schlaubär-Windsbraut?

Alas, and now this. A fellow knitter cast on a beautiful hat. Really gorgeous. Pattern called Newsboy. My most favourite yarn dealer had the perfect yarn in perfect colour and exactly the neccessary number of skeins for me. And I cast it on. Beautiful pattern, looks great. The yarn knits up perfect, in the meantime I changed from magic loop to eight (in words: eight) dpns, since the pattern (something with alternate slip stitches) is so tight, that you're hardly able to move the stitches. Now I have 800 metres more yarn, a really hard to knit project. And what next? What does our silly little Windsbride?

Schlägt einen Häkelteppich mit dreifachem Mikrogarn an. Das Ding ist wunderhübsch, lauter feste Maschen, drei Farben Nadelstärke 6, schneller Fortschritt, wird sich gut in meinem Windfang machen. Ich hab richtig, richtig großen Vorratsabbau. Die 800 Meter sind komplett kompensiert, meine Jacke hat genau Null Fortschritt und die Mütze liegt da, möchte eine ebensolche werden, ist aber furchtbar anstrengend.

Casts on for a crochet rug with 3 strands of microfibre. It's beautiful, single crochet throughtout, three colours, needle size 6mm, will be beautiful in my entry. A real stash-buster. The 800 metres are compensated, my cardigan has exactly no progress and the hat is just lying there doing nothing, desiring to become a hat, but it's exhausting.

Gotseidank habe ich zwei fertige Projekte zum Vorzeigen, sonst müsste ich mich in Grund und Boden schämen ob meiner Wankelmütigkeit.

Thank goodness I have two finished objects to show, since otherwise I would have to feel thoroughly ashamed of my fickleness.

Das erste Teil ist eigentlich längst fertig. Das ist Catkin in zwei Wollmeisen (was auch immer die Namen sind). Ich hatte es nur nicht gespannt und die Knöpfe haben gefehlt. Beides hab ich jetzt erledigt. Der Mittelteil war anstrengend, weil man höllisch aufpassen musste, sich nicht zu verstricken. Dafür war der äußere Teil sehr interessant, bei den Hebemaschen war der Trick, den Spannfaden lang genug zu lassen. In der angegebenen Größe ist es ein bisschen klein, aber es trägt sich gut und sieht vor allem mit den Knöpfen an der Schulter sehr schön aus. Selbst auf einem langweiligen Pulli macht das gute Stück was her.

The first of those has been done for ages. That is Catkin with two Wollmeise-yarns (whatever the colournames are). It just lacked blocking and buttons. Both is now done. The second pattern was a bit demanding, you had to pay close attention not to miss the spot where you were. As a reward the third part was fun and interesting. With the slip stitches you had to pay attention to make the carries long enough so it wouldn't pucker. The size given is a bit small, but it wears well, especially with the buttons on the shoulder, and makes a boring sweater interesting.

Das zweite Teil war mein erster Fehltritt in Bezug auf die Jacke. In einer Diskussion bei Ravelry kam das Thema auf das Muster Seven Circles. Das hatte ich schon immer mal stricken wollen, jetzt wars fällig und ich habs gestrickt. Aus Norogarn, ist eigentlich ganz einfach. Immer einen Ring stricken, dann fast alles abketten, dann einen größeren oder kleineren Ring nochmals anschlagen und so weiter. Macht sieben einzelne Ringe und einen warmen Hals. Noro war wie immer doof zu stricken, aber es trägt sich ganz gut (ich bin ja nicht fimschig mit Kratzen).

 

The second one was my first blunder from the cardigan. There was a mention of the pattern Seven Circles in a discussion on Ravelry. I remembered that I had wanted to knit this for ages, so I did. It's made out of Noro, and it's really simple: Just knit a circle, cast of almost all the stitches, cast on a few more or less stitches, knit a second circle and so on. Makes seven single circles attatched by some 20 stitches and a warm neck. Noro was no fun to knit as always, but it wears well (I'm not squeamish at scratchy yarn on naked skin).

So, und jetzt stricke ich die Mütze weiter, jawohl! Und dann wird die Jacke fertiggemacht, ähem.

Ich habe noch einen Rest geribbeltes Garn, insofern ist es nicht ganz so spannend, aber das wird wirklich knapp. Gottseidank brauche ich keine Jackenblende mehr.

I've got a bit of rehabilitated yarn, so it's not all that thrilling, still this is going to be a near thing. Fortunately this thing comes without a button band.

Kuddelmuddel | Higgledy-piggledy

Mein Leben enthält gerade mal wieder ausgesprochen interessante Aspekte. Vielleicht werde ich ja alt, irgendwie finde ich Sachen, die immer wieder passieren, auf einmal anstrengend und blöd, gleichzeitig sitze ich da mit einer gelinden Blasiertheit da, schaue mir die diversen Spektakel an und bin mal wieder bei "Ach Gottchen". Dennoch kann ich mich nicht dran gewöhnen, dass das Leben einem manchmal einen ordentlichen Puff versetzt. 

My daily life contains again some very interesting aspects. Maybe I'm getting old, I deem most regular things stupid and arduous. At the same time I'm sitting here with a slight smugness, look at the diverse ruckusses and I'm again back at "oh lordy!" However I'm not able to get used to the fact that life sometimes really kicks you.

Jedenfalls kann ich wieder mal nur dem Universum und allen Gottheiten danken, dass ich mit einer gewissen Beobachtungsgabe ausgestattet bin, die mich befähigt, auch meine eigenen Reaktionen anzuschauen und über das zu lächeln, was ich sehe. Und dass das Strickzeug und die abendlichen Bücher schön sind und helfen, Schmerzhaftes, Ärgerliches und Aufreibendes in schöne, kleine Maschen zu gießen, die irgendwann mal mir oder jemand anderem Freude und Wärme bereiten.

Well, all I can do is again thank the universe and all the gods within it, that I'm blessed with a power of observation that enables me to even look at my own reactions and smile at what I see. And I'm also blessed with knitting and books in the evening that help form painful, annoying and exhausting stuff into beautiful little stitches, which at some point give joy and warmth to me or somebody else.

So kryptisch das jetzt klingt, kann ich nur so viel sagen: Irgendwas meints grade nicht so richtig gut mit mir. Im Moment weiß ich noch nicht so recht, obs die astrologischen Aspekte, Gott im Himmel oder nur mein höchst irdisches Vorgesetztensystem ist. Die Beurteilung dieser Frage bewahre ich mir auf, bis ich aus dem Durcheinander raus bin.

As cryptic as this all may sound now, all I can say is this: Something within the universe doesn't wish me well. At the moment I'm not sure whether it's the astrological aspects, God in Heaven or simply my very earthly superiors. I reserve judgement on this questions for a time when I've escaped the jumble.

Etwas später als sonst | Bit later than usual

Normalerweise erzähle ich ja sonntags, was so stricktechnisch geboten wird. Normalerweise, das bedeutet, wenn ich nicht grade wie eine Bescheuerte Schlüssel suche oder - wie gestern passiert - in einem Eisregen und in einem Zug sehr viel Zeit verbringe.

Usually its Sunday when I recount the projects underway concerning knitting. Usually, that is, if I'm not busy searching my keys like mad or - this happened yesterday - spent a lot more time than usual in a train due to ice rain. 

Was so eine zünftige Strickerin ist, die hat natürlich nichts gegen Verspätung. Okay, wenns dann mal mehr als eine Stunde Verspätung wird, wünsche ich mir schon, jetzt daheim zu sein und nicht erst kurz vor Mitternacht anzukommen. Jedenfalls kein Anlass, dann noch zu bloggen. Paradoxerweise ist es jetzt ein Tag später und deutlich nach Mitternacht. Aber gut, reden wir nicht von meinen Schlafenszeiten, die hören zu meiner Privatsphäre, gelle?

Well, a dyed in the wool knitter doesn't mind delays in trains. Well, if the delay is more than an hour I do wish to be at home now and not reach it until hardly before midnight. Still, coming home that late doesn't leave room to blog. Paradoxically it's a day later and well past midnight. But hey, we won't discuss my times of sleep here, these fall into my private sphere, okay?

Zurück zur Strickzeit und meinen Projekten. Ich habe heute vier zu bieten, alle vier sind irgendwie gestreift.

So, back to knitting time and projects. I will  present four of those today, all four with some sorts of stripes:

Nummer 1 ist etwas wie Livstykketroje von Bente Geil (wenn Ihr bei Ravelry seid, nicht unter diesem Stichwort suchen, da fehlt ein Strich durch das "o", Geil ist hier die bessere Wahl). Das ist eine geniale Konstruktion: Die Jacke wird gerade hochgestrickt, wechselt aber von Querrippen nach Längsrippen und macht auf diese Weise einen Chic in die Jacke.

Ich stricke das Teil aus Wollmeise Lace doppelt. Die Farbe heißt "Single Malt", also habe ich mein Jäckchen folgerichtig "Whisky-Jacke" getauft. Das ist ein wunderbares Rostbraun, strickt sich wie Butter und mit Dank an Eisregen hab ich auch schon richtig Fortschritte gemacht. Auf dem Bild sieht man noch nicht viel außer ziemlich unruhigem Gestrick. Das liegt nicht nur an sträflichen Telefonbildern, sondern vor allem daran, dass das Garn schonmal aufgezogen ist. Gibt sich beim Waschen.

Und ich habe mir für diese Woche vorgenommen, nur an diesem Projekt zu stricken. Nicht nur möchte ich rasch vorwärts kommen, sondern auch sehen, ob ich überhaupt noch lediglich an einem Projekt stricken kann. Wer weiß, vielleicht gibt das ja eine Revolution!

N° 1 is something like Livstykketroje by Bente Geil (if you look for the pattern in Ravelry, don't search for the pattern name, since the "o" should be crossed out, try Geil, that's better). The construction is gorgeous: You knit just straight on, shaping is done by changing the pattern from ridges to ribbing. This makes the chique of the cardigan. 

I'm knitting it with two strands of Wollmeise-Lace. The colour is "Single Malt", so I christend my cardi "Whisky-cardigan". Its a beautiful auburn, the yarn knits like butter and thanks to ice rain I made some considerable progress. The picture shows not very much except some very uneven knitting. This is not just due to offering you ghastly mobile pictures, but also due to the yarn being rehabilitated from another project. It will even out with washing. 

For this week I intend to knit nothing else but this project. Not only do I want to see progress in this. It will also be an experiment to check out if I'm at all able to knit one project at a time. Maybe we are in for a revolution.

Das zweite Projekt ist wieder so eine Lemming-Nummer. Jemand bringt eine Anleitung ins Strickcafé, wir alle gehen ab wie Schmidts Katze, das Garn fließt geradezu in den Strickkorb und los gehts. Die Anleitung heißt "Dream Stripes" von Cailliau Berangere und ich stricke es aus dem angegebenen Garn Holst Samarkand in einem wunderbaren Braunton und einem wunderbaren Blauton. Mein Lieblingswollgeschäft veranstaltet einen Knitalong.

The second project is an example for what I call the lemming-thing. One knitter brings a pattern to knitting cafe, everybody gets excited, the yarn is practically melting into the knitting basket and on we go. The pattern is Dream Stripes of Cailliau Berangere and I'm knitting Holst Samarkand, the yarn given in the pattern.  My best loved LYS is conducting a knitalong. 

Projekt Nummer drei sind meine derzeitigen Socken. Ich habe nicht mehr viel selbstmusterndes Garn, aber die Wollmeisen haben halt schon immer eine starke Ansicht, wie sie sich farblich entwickeln wollen. Deshab suche ich gerne Anleitungen, die auch bei selbstmusternden Garnen noch eine Zeichnung verursachen. Diesmal ist es Charybdis. Ich hab schon das zugehörige Scylla gestrickt, Charybdis ist für selbstmusternde Garne doch etwas spektakulärer, wobei mir bei Scylla die Ferse besser gefällt. Die Farbe der Wollmeise weiß ich allerdings nicht.

Project n°3 is my present sock project. I don't own a lot of self-patterning sock yarn, but some of my Wollmeisen have a quite strong opinion of how they want to develop when knitted. So I'm constantly in the search of patterns which won't vanish with the colour. This time I used Charybdis. I also knitted the according Scylla, but I think, Charybdis is the more spectacular pattern for variegated yarns. Still I like the heel of Scylla better than this one. I don't know the colour name of the Wollmeise.

Das letzte Projekt von heute ist ein leider noch nicht gelungener Versuch. Auch das eine Socke. Ich liebe die Sockenanleitungen von Katherine Misegades aus dem kleinen Büchlein "The Tongue River Farm Sock Collection". Die Muster finde ich schön, die Ferse ist ungewöhnlich und überhaupt, feine Sache, das. Ich habe mir die Anleitung "Waves and Rivulets" ausgesucht und schonmal angefangen.

Die Besonderheit hier ist, dass ich nicht zwei einfarbige Garne verwende, sondern eines davon hat einen Farbverlauf. Leider ist meine Art zweifarbig zu stricken so, dass die Socke mit Nadelstärke 2,25 so lappig wird, dass ich mir die Socke überwerfen könnte. Deshalb wird das jetzt eine Premiere: Socken in Nadelstärke unter 2,0 ... Ich werde berichten ... aber erst irgendwann später, jetzt stecke ich erstmal in meinem Entwicklungsprojekt Whisky-Jacke.

The last project of today is one that didn't work out in the first attempt. This will also be a sock. I love the sock patterns by Katherine Misegades in the little booklet "The Tongue River Farm Sock Collection". The patterns are beautiful, the heel unusual and it's just neat knitting. I picked the pattern Waves and Rivulets and got myself started instantly. 

My special trick will be that I won't use two unicolour yarns, but one will be variegated. Unfortunately my way of stranded knitting causes the socks to be so sloppy that I could simply throw them over. So this pattern will be a premiere: Knitting socks below needle size 0 ... I'll keep you posted ... you might have to wait a bit, since I'm at my self improvement programme called Whisky cardigan.

Fertigmachitis | Finishitupitis

Januar ist offensichtlich immer die Zeit, wo Sachen fertig werden sollen. Gilt für mich wie für andere auch. Da ich letztes Jahr ja nicht nur unglaublich viel neue Wolle "gekriegt", sondern auch furchtbar viel angefangen habe, war jetzt die Zeit, sich mal näher mit dem zu befassen, was da ist. Und da sind mir ein paar Sachen in die Hände gefallen, die jetzt fertig geworden sind, andere werden bald fertig sein, wieder andere sind wieder aufgeribbelt. Da ist  beispielsweise eine Jacke, deren Garn ich auf Guernsey gekauft habe, das auch noch Guernsey heißt und das Ganze soll eine Guernsey-Jacke werden. Aber das Muster war selbst ausgedacht und mochte nicht so richtig passen, ich hatte nicht die richtige Nadelstärke dabei, deshalb war das kugelsicherer Strick in Nadelstärke 3,0, wo eigentlich 4,0 angemessener gewesen wäre. So ist sie also wie andere Anfänge den Weg alles Irdischen gegangen, das Garn ist schön gewickelt wieder in eine Vakuumtüte verschwunden und wartet jetzt darauf, dass ich ihm die gebührende planerische Aufmerksamkeit schenke. Und das werde ich, versprochen!

January seems to be a good time to finish up things. I'm doing that and others do so too. Since I not only "received" tons of yarn last year, but also started jillions of projects, this was the time to stop and have a good look to what is there. And I found a few things, which I finished up now, others are to be done soon, some projects are frogged. One of those is a cardigan, the yarn of which I bought on Guernsey, it is named Guernsey and it will be a Guernsey cardigan. I figured the pattern out for myself, but it didn't properly fit, I didn't have the right needle size with me, so it was bullet-proof knitting in size 2.5 where a size 6 would have been much more appropriate. So it went into nothing, which is to say everything, together with some other projects. The yarn is wound neatly and went back to a zippered bag and will wait until I can give it my full attention in terms of planning. And I will give it that, promise!

Gleichzeitig habe ich zwischen den Jahren eine Reise durch die Zeiten angetreten. Teils traurig, teils interessant, teils, naja, gedanken- und erinnerungsvoll. Das wird also jetzt das Thema sein.

At the same time during holidays I took a trip through the times. Partly sad, partly interesting, partly, well, full of thoughts and memories. So this will be my topic now.

Wenn wir bei der Jetzt-Zeit bleiben: Einer meiner großen Garnkäufe waren 500 Gramm Lang Novena. Ein wundervolles Garn mit Alpaka, Wolle und ein bisschen Plastik. Butterweich, vermutlich eher nicht geeignet für ein Kleidungsstück, wollten diese 20 ein Tuch werden. Ein großes, quadratisches Tuch wollten sie werden, das, wenn anständig gespannt, auch mal als Schoßdecke geeignet ist.

Ich hatte zunächst Spire im Kopf und habe damit auch angefangen. Aber dann habe ich gelesen, dass ich in jeder Reihe Löcher machen muss, das war mir dann doch etwas zuviel, also habe ich mir selbst ein Muster überlegt, womit das Garn möglichst weit aufgebraucht wird. Dann habe ich losgestrickt und unversehens wollten 800 Maschen mit einem Lacerand beendet werden. Da hats ein bisschen rumgelegen, aber jetzt habe ich mich zusammengerissen und das Teil beendet. Ich habe noch genügend Garn für Armstulpen, 400 Gramm habe ich verbraucht, und das Tuch ist riesig. Ungespannt misst es ungefähr 1,30 Kantenlänge.

Staying in the now-time: One of my bigger yarn purchases were 500 grams of Lang Novena. A beautiful and soft yarn blend of alpaca, wool and a bit nylon. It is so soft, I don't think it's suitable for a sweater, so these wee 20 balls wanted to become a shawl. A big square shaw, which would serve as a laprug when properly blocked. I first had Spire in mind and started it as that, but then I realized I would have to make yarn-overs in every row, so I skipped the plan and made the lace up myself with the goal in mind to use up as much of this yarn as possible. Then I knitted and suddenly there were 800 stitches that wanted to be knitted of with a lace edging. So this vanished for a bit, but then I pulled myself together and finished it. I will be able to knit myself some fingerless mittens with the leftovers, I used up 400 grams, and the shawl is HUGE. Before blocking the edges are 1.30m long. 

So, gehen wir noch ein paar Jahre zurück. 2010 habe ich eine Jacke oder besser einen Mantel begonnen aus Drops Alaska. Die Anleitung war von Drops und das Ding war riesig!

Aus irgendwelchen Gründen ist das Teil dann liegengeblieben, bis ich letzten Oktober wieder darauf zurückgekommen bin. Dann hat es wieder rumgelegen, weil die Ärmel ungefähr 1000 Meter lang waren, jetzt habe ich die geribbelt und fertig gemacht.

Sie hat wieder Innenärmel, wie ich sie mag, natürlich geräumige Taschen, eine gute Länge. Evtl. kriegt sie noch ein Futter (die Idee dazu habe ich aus Custom Knit Fit Jackets von Jean Frost, sie quiltet das Futter ans Gestrick, was ich faszinierend finde) und eine Reißverschlussblende für unter die Knopfleiste, das Futter dafür, dass sie nicht so mörderisch wächst. Ich mag sie, sie passt gut.

Let's go back a few years, shall we? In 2010 I started a cardigan or be it a coat out of Drops Alaska. The pattern is also from Drops and the thing is again HUGE. 

Out of no reasons at all I dropped knitting this for more than a year until last October I took it up again. Then I dropped it to the naughty corner, since the sleeves had about 1.000 feet. Now I ripped those out and did them properly. 

The cardi has sleeves within the sleeves, I like those, of course roomy pockets and a good length. Maybe I'll ad an additional facing for a zipper underneath the buttons and maybe I'll line it, so it won't grow too huge (I've got the idea from the great book Custom Fit Knit Jackets by Jean Frost, she's quilting the lining to the knitted fabric, which I find fascinating). I like it a lot and it fits well.

Noch zwei Jahre früher habe ich mir Tweed Garn bestellt. Aus Irland. Das mache ich normalerweise nicht, ich hab meinen Stammladen und dort gibt es alles, was ich brauche (und noch viel mehr, beispielsweise schönes Strickcafé, freundliche Leute und eine rundrum gute Atmosphäre). Das Zeug kam in unglaublichen Strängen, 250 Gramm jeweils (die Nadel auf dem Knäuel ist 20cm lang). Damit habe ich fast meinen ersten Wickler zerstört. Natürlich habe ich nicht einfach ein, zwei Knäule gekauft, nein, in drei Farben jeweils vier Stränge, macht dreimal Pulloverstärke. Jetzt beim Wolle Aufräumen habe ich die Dinger wieder in der Hand gehabt und konnte nicht an mich halten, ich musste das anstricken. Und wie immer bei solchen Sachen habe ich natürlich die schöne Farbe, das Blau, erstmal nicht angestrickt, das muss was Besonderes werden. Orange wird es, der St. Denis Cardigan, mit einer Taschenlösung in Doppelstrick. Was habe ich geflucht, weil das so anstrengend war!! Aber es lohnt sich, die Taschen sind kaum zu sehen. Da freue ich mich drauf, auch wenn das Garn - ähm - rauh ist, um nicht zu sagen kratzig.

Again two years earlier I bought some yarn in the internet. From Ireland. I don't do this usually, I've got my favourite local yarn store, where I find everything I need (and much more, like a wonderful knitting café, friendly people and a very cozy atmosphere). The thing came in huge skeins, 250 grams each (the needle on the picture is 8'' long). With this I almost ruined my first ball winder. Of course I didn't buy just one or two skeins, no, it had to be four skeins each in three colours, which is three sweaters' worth. When going through my stash I had those in my hands and I couldn't help it but begin a project with them. And as always I didn't take the beautiful blue, this will have to become something very special. The cardigan will be orange, the pattern is Saint Denis Cardigan, adding pockets in double knitting. Boy, I used some very choice expletives, it was really an effort! But it was worth it, they're hardly visible. I'm looking forward to this, even though the yarn is quite - well - robust, if not scratchy.

Und zum Schluss machen wir einen wirklich großen Zeitsprung, zurück in die 90er Jahre. Da habe ich natürlich auch schon gestrickt, unter anderem für meinen Vater. Beim Ausräumen habe ich diese Jacke wiedergefunden. Sie ist wirklich schon sehr alt und etwas ausgeleiert, aber das war damals meine favorisierte Jackenform. Überschnittene Ärmel, ein Muster, das nichts von mir will (großes Perlmuster in diesem Fall), natürlich Taschen (Jacken ohne Taschen gingen für meinen Vater gar nicht!), einen warmen Kragen und das Ganze schön dick. Muster hatte ich nie für sowas, hab halt die Maße genommen und losgestrickt. Das Garn ist irgendwas mit Wolle und Plastik, ich habe sogar noch drei Restknäule gefunden, die vielleicht noch was werden wollen. Ich kann die Jacke noch nicht waschen, sie riecht noch nach seinem Rasierwasser. Deshalb liegt sie hier einfach noch ein bisschen, bis sie gewaschen und dann weiter getragen wird.

Finally we'll go on a wider time travel, back to the 1990ies. Of course I knitted then also. Among others for my father. When clearing up I found this cardigan. It's very old and a bit worn down. This was my favourite way of knitting jackets: simple sleeve, a pattern that required nothing but plain knitting (it's moss stitch), of course pockets (my father wouldn't wear cardigans without pockets), a cozy collar and good strong yarn. I never used a pattern, just took the measurements and started. The yarn is some blend of wool and acrylics, I also found three leftover skeins, which may become something also. I can't wash the cardi yet, it still smells of my father's aftershave. So it will lie here a bit until it's washed and will be worn again.

Zurück in der Jetzt-Zeit habe ich noch ein paar Sachen rumliegen, die ich auch noch fertig machen möchte. Da sind Handschuhe mit offenen Fingern, von oben gestrickt und mit einer Kappe für Fäustlinge. Die sind fast fertig, war mehr so ein spontanes Ausprobieren. Ein Pamuya-Tuch braucht auch nicht mehr viel, bis es meinen Hals zieren kann. Dann bin ich an einem weiteren Pi-Are-Square, allerdings in einer Farbe, die unbedingt gefärbt werden muss. Eine rote Jacke ist sogar schon gewaschen und braucht nur noch Knöpfe. Ich find mich ja ganz fleißig und getreu meinem Plan werde ich so viel wie möglich altes Garn verstricken. Für ein Projekt benötige ich neues Garn, das wird für die
nächste Generation, aber davor müssen erst noch 10.000 Meter Garn aus alten Beständen weg. Also ich höre nicht auf, Spaß zu haben an dem, was ich mache.

Back in the present I still have some stuff lying around, which I would like to finish. There are gloves with open fingers, knitted from the top and with an added cap piece for mittens. These are nearly done, I knitted those to try out a new technique. A Pamuya shawl also needs little more knitting in order to adorn my neck. Then I'm knitting another Pi-Are-Square, in a colour which desperately calls for overdyeing. A red cardigan is blocked and needs buttons. I feel very busy and according to plan I will knit as much of the yarn in the stash as at all possible. I'll need new yarn for one project, that's for the next generation. But before that I'll have to get rid of 10.000 meters of stash yarn. Well, I'll go on having fun with what I'm doing.
