Jacken, Jacken | Cardigans, Cardigans

Im Moment habe ich mal wieder meine Großteile-Phase. Die Meg-Swansen-Jacke schreitet vor sich hin, aber da ist noch nicht so viel Neues zu zeigen. Ende November wird erst die nächste Anprobe sein, also habe ich da noch Zeit.

At present I'm in a phase of knitting sweaters. The Meg-Swansen-Cardigan proceeds slowly. There is not much new to show, since there will be the next try-on by the end of November, which gives me quite some time.

Deshalb habe ich mich den anderen zwei Projekten zugewendet, dem Zimmermann-Jacke und dem Medallion Cardigan, den ich inzwischen in Tapetenmantel umgetauft habe. Beide machen auf ihre Weise viel Spaß. Okay, die Zimmermann-Jacke stricke ich nur in Gesellschaft, weil endlose kraus-rechts-Reihen doch ziemlich - ähm - anstrengend sind, wenn man sich darauf konzentrieren möchte.

Therefore I turned to my two present projects, the Adult Surprise Jacket and the Medallion Cardigan, which I re-christened Wallpaper Coat. Both are fun in their respective ways. Well, I'm knitting the ASJ only when among people, since endless rows of garter stitch are quite exhausting if you try to concentrate on them.

Der Tapetenmantel zeigt mal wieder das Schwarze Loch des Strickens: Ich habe ein bisschen gestrickt und rums, war das Ding 28cm lang, so dass ich erstmal wieder drei Zentimeter aufribbeln musste, um Taschen einzufügen (ein Mantel braucht Taschen). Dann habe ich endlos lange gestrickt und am Ende war das Ding (und ist im Moment) schmale 33cm lang. Nicht, dass ich das verstehe, aber ich glaube, sowas ist Gesetz beim Stricken.

Übrigens werde ich den Steek vorne einmal abketten und wieder anschlagen. Die Erfahrung zeigt wohl, dass es einfacher ist, ihn auf zweimal zu nähen.

The Wallpaper Coat reveals again the Black Hole of Knitting: I knitted a bit and lo, the thing was 28cm long. So I had to rip back three centimetres in order to insert pockets (a coat needs pockets). Then I knitted endlessly and at the end (and at the moment) the thing is a mere 33cm long. Not that I understand this, but it seems the law of knitting.

By the way I will bind off and cast on the front steek once. It seems to be easier to sow it in two portions.

Für die Zimmermann-Jacke hatte ich mit 800g zu wenig Garn, man mags bei 250 Meter/100g kaum glauben. Das Teil frisst unglaublich viel Garn. Okay, es geht natürlich sehr schnell vorwärts, wenn man mindestens einen Teil der Ärmel direkt mit anstrickt, aber so viel Garn ist schon ungewöhnlich. Inzwischen habe ich genug, insofern kann ich jetzt wieder mit vollem Eifer dranbleiben. Zunächst hatte ich gedacht, ich stricke einfach einfarbige Streifen in Petrol rein. Das ist jetzt nicht mehr notwendig, deshalb bekommt das Ganze eine einfarbig petrolfarbene Umrandung in Form von I-Cords. Übrigens werde ich das so machen, dass ich etwas mehr zunehme als vorgesehen, um das Ganze nach unten ein bisschen weiter werden zu lassen. Ganz wenig, weil ja das Rückenteil durch die Konstruktion in der Breite festgelegt ist, aber doch ein bisschen.


800g were too little yarn for the ASJ, which is hard to believe with 273 yards/100g. This thing seems to eat up yarn. Well, it proceeds fairly quickly, since you knit part of the sleeves as you go along. But that much yarn is quite unusual. So I had to buy more and this motivated to take it up again quite busily. First I thought as a way round to insert plain rows of petrol. This is no longer necessary so the thing will have petrol I-Cord-Edgings. By the way I intend to increase a little more than given in the pattern in order to make it a wee bit wider at the lower part. Not too much, since due to the construction the back width is fix.
